Where'd June Go?

It's never too early to start planning ahead and with it less than a week away (which I really can't believe) I'd say it's a good a time as any to start outfit planning for the 4th of July, especially if you're celebrating over the weekend. It just so happens that my new favorite midi dress is the perfect combination of red, white and blue so it's definitely what I'll be wearing at some point over the weekend. I have more casual plans just hanging with the family, so I opted for a more bohemian twist with flat sandals and some layered bracelets. What are ya'll wearing for the upcoming holiday?

Love in Polka Dots.

What is it about black and white polka dot prints that is always just so fun and flirty yet feels effortlessly classic and forever timeless? My wardrobe has been lacking some polka dots lately, probably because I'm just so heavy on the stripes, so this chiffon maxi from Tosave was a no brainer especially coming in with an under $10 price tag. Yep you read that right, will barely break the bank and can last you season after season, you're welcome. If that doesn't tickle your fancy I linked a bunch of other polka dot pieces in the side bar -> at a variety of price points!

Maxi Dressing is a Breeze.

Over Memorial Day weekend Free People had a sale on sale, and of course that's my favorite time to scoop up some of their goodies. For me, with Free People it's always a little bit of a gamble if their styles are going to fit my body type. This dress for example actually came with a little bandeau bra top meant to be layered underneath and worn with it, I of course can't pull off a look with so little coverage so opted to layer under a tee. This time of year I love a good maxi/midi dress, because it's such an easy style to throw on day or night and your look is complete with just one article of clothing. If I were traveling on a tropical vacation I would definitely be layering this maxi dress over my swimsuit while dining pool side. Bold and versatile, just had to make the piece work for me! This exact style is linked below and on sale for under $50!

Dress Refresh.

Some days I go into my closet and just can't shake the feeling that everything looks the same, and I am bored. For me it's not realistic to keep up on all of the latest fashions and trends, so I have to refresh older styles to make them seem new to me and more current in fashion. Maxi dresses are a great way to create multiple outfits, because they automatically double as a skirt with little effort. The key to layering with a maxi is to have at least one structured piece over top to give you some shape. You don't want the layers to just keep piling on so you look frumpy. The belted vest definitely helped, because I was able to emphasize my waist while still wearing multiple layers.  I was amazed at how many compliments I got on this 'skirt' because it's over a year old an I've worn it dozens of times, but with a little love it seemed brand new!
