Skinny Jeans: A Colorful Life.

Has the shelf life of skinny jeans finally expired? According to trend reports be prepared to give  your skinnies a break as most retailers will be shelling out new looser fitting styles, like boyfriend and girlfriend jeans and denim alternatives like sleek sweats. Not that I myself don't love a good slouchy boyfriend jean, but I can't imagine doing away with my go-to skinnies altogether; the average week I wear a skinny jean at least 3 times. To keep my denim looks from becoming too stale I decided yesterday was the perfect day to refresh with some colored denim that I haven't worn in months! To me, it was a nice contrast to my usual, neutral denim. What about you, are you ready to retire your skinny jeans?

Fab Florals.

There are so many things I'm loving about this floral blouse from Blue Eyed Girl, it's a great color, the amazing bell sleeves and the keyhole in the back that still works when wearing a regular bra. This is my first pre-fall buy and I know it'll be carrying me through the upcoming season!

Too Much Texture?..Never

Colder, gloomy days call for layers, which I love because that usually means lots of textures! I like this look because the focus of the outfit is the metallic threaded tweed vest, but you still see the detailing of the leather sleeves, and it's all balanced out with a nice, suede ankle boot. LOTS of texture, you can't go wrong. Now here's to hoping it actually rains in SoCal like it's supposed to!

Trials in Transitioning.

I know in other parts of the country everyone's experiencing an extreme winter, but here in SoCal are weather has fortunately been pretty beautiful, keeping us in a fashion limbo. Do we start busting out are denim shorts and sandals for Spring, or do we keep on layering with our grasp on winter? Sometimes when transitioning between seasons it's best to go back to basics. An open-knit sweater is great because it keeps you warm but you're not sweltering, and they work well by themselves, no need for additional layers. A ripped skinny jean works perfect because it gives off a summertime vibe, but you're still covered as opposed to busting out your cut-offs in February. And let's be honest, the perfect ankle boot can work anytime of year. Add some fun accessories and voila, you don't look seasonally out of sorts but you're still comfortable to endure the weather.

If I Were at NYFW.

Today starts the excitement that is New York Fashion Week, though I'm not sure how excited attendees are about braving Lincoln Center in the miserable cold. I'm sure being among the elite that get to see upcoming Fall fashion first makes it all worth while. Here is my fashion week inspired look for the day, I'm sure if I was actually in NYC I would have a couple more layers but you get the idea.

Indian Summer.

This unseasonably warm SoCal weather has inspired me to get in touch with my bohemian side; not that it's a far reach to find my boho self. It got me to thinking though, why do bohemian styles seem to die out in the winter months? I know by November our Woodstock inspired, festival going selves seem like a distant summer dream, but there are so many great pieces to add to our winter wardrobes. Like this Free People cardigan, it's warm, great for layering, and the fringe on the arms and back make it pretty much perfect for every occasion. We don't need to be in ripped shorts, maxi skirts or crop tops to have a boho flair.

It's All About the Jakett.

It's pretty common knowledge that I can't live without a great leather jacket. It's been a wardrobe staple of mine for years, so when my favorite boutique Blue Eyed Girl got in this beautiful vegan leather jacket by Jakett I swooned. Playing dress up in some of my fall favorites from the shop made it pretty evident this jacket is the perfect statement to
any look, day or night.
