Birks are Back.

Trends are a funny thing; there are new ones starting up so frequently, some last for many seasons, while others are hardly picked up by the general population. Most seasons I find myself loving certain trends, but I don't really jump on board, or as a budget shopper I find myself finding pieces I'm still in love with, for a deal, a little later. Growing as a stylist I find myself wanting to experiment with trends more, and buying lower priced knock-offs is a fun way to do it and not break the bank. Paired with key, quality pieces the right replica can look fantastic!

Yesterday I jumped on board and tried out the Birkenstock trend; I briefly remember this happening when I was a kid, but didn't carry out my days in them. Some are completely despising that this flat, casual sandal has made a come back, but I'll say after a day in my $16 pair from Payless, I'm loving them. Comfortable is probably the biggest selling point, and I think the t-strap silhouette is slightly chicer than the traditional double strap. Sincerely Jules, I'm right there with you and loving that the Birks are in fact back.

Arabian Nights.

Whenever I'm getting dressed for the day I usually have an idea in my head of what I want my outfit to look like. (I'm sure we all do.) Half the time things don't turn out the way I imagine and other times, I'm so close, but there is just one piece I wish I could swap out for something else. Yesterday I really wanted to wear this Jen's Pirate Booty poncho and thought it would look amazing with a flare jean and chunky sandals. Well, to my disappointment these flares are just too short to be worn with heels, and I felt stalky wearing them with flat sandals. The solution? To change things up from skinnies I took the excess flare portion of the pants and rubberbanded them into knots, then I just tucked the knots up into the pants. Creating a harem style effect and channeling my inner Aladdin.

Harem We Go Again.

Trials in harem pants take two: Spending so many of my days dressed up in tight skinny jeans, and heeled ankle booties it's nice to take a day to be totally comfortable; yet still wear a cohesive outfit. Behold my latest pair of harem pants, these ultra soft knit pants, are pretty much the equivalent of wearing pajamas, or close to no pants at all. These super pants paired with the extreme comfort of a flexible Yosi Samra ballet flat make for the perfect day-off look. To keep myself from channeling my inner Aladdin too much, I topped off the look with a military inspired jacket to keep things modern.

Young Hearts Run Free.

Spent today reflecting on my next step in life, what project can I undertake next. Always looking for something fresh to motivate me, and this Wildfox tee is definitely helping. Just remember ladies and gents, young hearts run free. Happy Monday!

Mixed Media.

If you're a little timid about mixing prints, a good way to start is with monochromatic colors or any other blend of the same colors, this way there is less confusion for the eye. From there you can accent your look with colored accessories or shoes, to make things pop and make the look your own.
